Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain and or spinal cord.  It develops in horses exposed to the West Nile Virus when the virus itself invades these sensitive tissues causing inflammation. 

Routine exams and temperatures are important ways to help determine if your horse is ill or may have an issue that affects performance.  These diagnostics are also a way equine health is evaluated for potential infectious diseases at the farm.
